Event - Auditorium 2011-2012 in STUK Leuven:
TeamTank guest curates the 2011-2012 edition of the lecture series AUDITORIUM for Stad & Architectuur. Each year eight architects, Belgian and foreign, present their work and practice - a mixture of architecture, design and urbanism - to the public. The location of the conferences is the STUK Arts Centre, a building by the Rotterdam based office of Neutelings-Riedijk Architects. This year will be discussed wether wood is the best option, what urban design can do and what is the comparison between nest and cave; while the nest offers the well-prepared person everything, a cave is a virgin space, in which people have to seek creatively for comfort. Lectures: Kaden Klingbeil (DE), MVRDV (NL), Interboro (USA), Jorge Mario Jauregui (BR), Lhoas & Lhoas (BE), Anouk Vogel (CH/NL), BOGDAN & VAN BROECK ARCHITECTS ( BE) and Sou Fujimoto (JP). Publication - A meaningful paycheck?
S.P.A.M. Office, an art installation by Pieterjan Ginckels, looks like a traditional modernist office setting; uniform office furniture made up of cheap, low quality - spam - materials, a coffee machine and all its obligatory accessories being present. Nylon tie-wraps are holding the mocha colored, cheap structural furniture panels together, being an ultimate representation of the volatility of spam. The spam officers - hired by the exhibiting organization - check e-mails, detect spam, print and prepare for a proofread and finally archive the letters. They become performers, wearing the uniform and logo of the ‘firm’, taking turns in a monotonous disarmament process to which spam is subjected. Of course this company mainly develops nonsensical operations, poetically supported by the decorum of bureaucracy. The messages are stripped of their corrupt, commercial deployment.
The release of S.P.A.M. BOOK coincided with the performance ‘S.P.A.M. OFFICE’ of Pieterjan Ginckels organized by Be-Part Platform for Contemporary Art, Waregem, Belgium, (May 2011). Amongst others, the publication contains the text contribution "A Meaningful Paycheck?", a collaboration of sociologists Tine Holvoet (TeamTank) and Eva Platteau (Public Management Institute, K.U.Leuven) about companies, hierarchy and the horizon of meaning.

SEAD - Space Ecologies Art and Design - is an artistic research project initiated by Angelo Vermeulen and Tine Holvoet, dealing with habitat and space exploration. Based on the concept of an artificial ecosystem, MELiSSA, short for Micro-Ecological Life Support System Alternative, is the European model for a regenerative life support system for astronauts. Event - Walking Straight through the city:
Stad & Architectuur together with Jan Wijle and TeamTank has developed a walking tour of recent buildings in Leuven's public space. We walk through streets and alleys, parks and squares, and sometimes also through buildings that are partly public. And that's what this walk is about: how buildings and public space relate to each other, wether the surroundings play a part in the design of a building and wether a building adds anything to public space.
You can walk along with Stad & Architectuur and the official city guides of Leuven.

Publication - CROSSTALKS:
In “Need it, work it, do it. Makes us stronger, faster, smarter.” we wonder how new combinations of existing projects and knowledge can help to change the weather.
“We can change the weather - 100 cases of changeability” is the 4th CROSSTALKS book (in collaboration with VUB). It documents 100 initiatives from all over the world that fit into a constructive and holistic movement for social and ecological change. Drawing from a pool of personally driven research and bottom-up projects, the book singles out 100 cases in different, yet interrelated domains. The selection itself was motivated by scientific researchers, architects, artists, political thinkers and entrepreneurs who try to make a positive difference in our quest for a future of prosperity, freedom and fun without undermining nature and humanity. TeamTank is the 95th case in the book.

Event - Toegepast: Fit to boost!
Design competition TOEGEPAST celebrates its 15th birthday party. Toegepast: Fit to boost! is an exhibition by Design Platform Limburg & Design Vlaanderen in the broader framework of Design September 2010. Curator: TeamTank.
Design Platform Limburg is invited in the Design Flanders Gallery in Brussels for its anniversary edition of Toegepast. Young and talented designers who were nominated by Design Platform Limburg over the past 15 years meet up with a variety of players in the design sector in this rather atypical retrospective. The Gallery works as a dynamic space for thinking, doing and celebrating. Designers, manufacturers, academics and even cooks give Toegepast’s designs a new boost. Design Platform Limburg and Design Flanders are pooling their various networks, approaches and methods for this design exhibition. Curator TeamTank is catapulting Limburg to Brussels for the duration of the exhibition, with a series of remix objects, dream team dinners, events-in-events, new networks and clever confrontations as a consequence.

Publication - Brussel Deze Week:
In “Vol au-dessus d’un nid de coucou.” we wonder how a better translation can bring together organisations, events and its potential audiences. Brussel Deze Week – Brussels’ local newspaper – invited TeamTank to write an opinion piece about the Flemish visitor of cultural events in Brussels, setting off from the strategic advise suggested by TeamTank to the francophone Cinéma Arenberg.

Event - 1000 Beats
The art installation "1000 Beats" by Pieterjan Ginckels consists of a number of record-players, mixing consoles, amplifiers and loudspeakers, on loan from people who feel an affiliation either to Brakke Grond (Amsterdam) or to the artist. On each record-player that works, One Beat, a 7” record consisting of a 1-second loop on an endless groove is playing. This loop was developed by the internationally-famous DJ Cristian Vogel, while the record sleeve was designed by the Norwegian designer-collective Grandpeople. Sound thus becomes an immaterial sculpture which at the same time visually and acoustically represents the social network of both Pieterjan Ginckels and the Brakke Grond. If this work is exhibited at other venues, the sound may be similar but never the same.
What is more, each lender receives a record in return, so that the One Beat links all those participating in the project. Want to participate?

Research - First room for MELiSSA 1550-2050:
First Room for MELiSSA is a poetic preview of Space Ecologies (working title), an artistic research project initiated by Angelo Vermeulen and Tine Holvoet, dealing with habitat and space exploration. A multi-layered installation made for the city exhibition Coup de Ville in Sint-Niklaas revolves around the urge for survival and procreation, confinement, design, personal affection, and the archetypal human fear of annihilation. For this exhibition, Vermeulen and Holvoet design conceptual narratives linked to the European Space Agency’s MELiSSA project. Based on the concept of an artificial ecosystem, MELiSSA, short for Micro-Ecological Life Support System Alternative, is the European model for a regenerative life support system for astronauts. MELiSSA allows the production of oxygen, water and food, and the recycling of organic wastes and carbon dioxide. Such regenerative life support systems will enable future long-term manned space missions such as a lunar base or a mission to Mars by ensuring crew survival.
